Summary[]

Hau'oli City suddenly starts experiencing a total citywide electricity outage since one of the solar panels at the power plant is broken, forcing everybody to rely on their Pokémon's natural powers for the day and forcing Nijiko, Kiseki, Megumi, and the other students to go home from school early. They have fun finding out creative ways to use their Pokémon's powers, but then decide that it's a lot easier to just use the utilities.

At school, Nijiko, Kiseki, Megumi, the other students, and their Pokémon were making gyoza and rice on the stove for Taiyo-sensei's culinary class. Megumi and her Mahoippu had wanted to make a cake, but the assignment was to make gyoza and rice instead.

"Awww, I wanted to make a cake!" Mahoippu complained. "Taiyo-sensei, why do we even have to make this crap?!"

"It's not crap!" Kiseki argued. "It's delicious!"

"Yeah, right, purplenette." Mahoippu argued back.

"HEY! That's her hated nickname!" Nijiko shouted. "Now watch the gyoza or it'll burn! Shitasakan-chan, Rotom-chan, Manafi-chan, don't let the gyoza or rice burn."

"WHO DARES CALL ME A PURPLENETTE?!" Kiseki shouted, enraged. "Starzie, don't be afraid to Moon Force anybody who calls me that stupid name! I have purple hair, but I'm not a 'purplenette!'"

"Girls, keep it down over there! The other students and their Pokémon are trying to work!" Taiyo-sensei said. "Now get back to your cooking."

However, the stove suddenly stopped working, and the lights went out. Starzie, Shitasakan-chan, and Rotom were still visible since they had glowing bodies/eyes, but Taiyo-sensei, all the other students and their other Pokémon were confused.

"Uhh, where did the light go?" Jirou asked, confused.

"I don't know." his Taroot said.

"Class, please calm down. It appears there's a schoolwide blackout." Taiyo-sensei said. He checked his phone, and the news said that everyone in Hau'oli City didn't have power either."

"Why?" Nijiko asked. "Was it a bunch of Magnemite or Charjabug that caused this?"

"No. It was caused by one of the solar panels being broken. The principal says you can all go home."

...

"At least the sun's still out." Dewara said while Nijiko and Kiseki were walking home to the apartment complex they both lived in. "So I won't starve."

"But I thought the building had solar panels!" Kiseki complained.

"It does, but they're grid-tied, meaning they still connect to the power plant and rely on its solar-generated electricity." Nijiko said. "So it means we'll have to use our Pokémon's powers until the power comes back on. My mom can cook dinner using my Bowtteur as the oven, but it's not a good idea to use an Electric-type Pokémon to run a power strip unless you're sure know what you're doing."

"I can use my Starzie as a flashlight. My mom and dad have an Alolan Vulpix as the family pet, but we can't use it to cook dinner." Kiseki said.

"I should recall all my Pokémon in the freezer room once I get home since there's no electricity to keep it cool." Nijiko said, worried. "See you tomorrow, Kiseki-san."

"See you tomorrow, Nijiko-san."

The two girls and their Pokémon went to their respective homes on the first and second floors. It was still daylight and each apartment had a window, so they would have light for a while, but they would have to improvise once it got dark.

"Bloomerous, I strongly suggest that you go outside and sit in the sun now." Dragonet said.

"We might need your light later, so you better stockpile that sugar." Nijiko added.

"Haruna-sama is coming home at 7 tonight, so we'll make dinner with Bowtteur or Cinderace then." Bloomerous agreed. "But first, I'll soak up some sunshine outside while I still can so I can make light later. We're lucky Alola gets a lot of sun."

Bloomerous went outside to soak up some sun, and so did Dewara and Naokusa. Dragonet and Rotom were taking turns playing a game on Nijiko's phone, but it was almost out of battery.

"I'm so hungry!" Dragonet complained.

"So am I." Rotom complained as well. "The food in the fridge and the freezer is going to go bad soon if there's no power."

"Yeah, we should put the food in some coolers. Amarus-chan, can you use Ice Beam to make some ice?" Nijiko asked.

"Sure."

She filled some coolers with ice, which everyone put the food in. Nijiko then quickly recalled her and put her in the cloud Pokémon Bank app since the freezer room didn't have power and she could quickly overheat.

"This should last at least a few hours. I already texted okaa-sama that we're doing fine, but my phone's battery just died."

"But anyways, where's the light?" Olympeon asked.

"The power plant has a broken solar panel." Dragonet said. "So that means all of Hau'oli City has no power, and neither does the apartment building."

"Nijiko-sama, Megumi-senpai, and Kiseki-senpai were in culinary class with the other students when the power suddenly went out. The principal also dismissed everyone from school due to the outage." Dewara added.

"I send the Starry Sky Rescue Squad to fix the solar panel here."

...

Meanwhile, Some of the Starry Sky Rescue Squad members has on their missions to fix the solar panel.

"Where's the damage, Zepheon?" Skyte asked.

"There's a big crack." Zepheon pointed.

"But how will we fix it? We couldn't bring Candew to use her superglue-like sap since she can't fly."

"Candew is being carried by Earthsumi."

"You're right. Just be extremely careful with the sap since it's extremely sticky and we're screwed if we use too much."

"...Except that's a rare cloudy today, so even after we fix it, we'll have to wait for the sun to come out for the power plant to start up again. But at least they have storage batteries for days like this." Earthsumi pointed out.

"Right."

Earthsumi carried Candew over to fix it. Meanwhile, Bloomerous was using the sun she had gathered to light up the kitchen of the apartment so that Nijiko and the Pokémon could set up to make dinner with Bowtteur's heat when Haruna came home.

"What are we making tonight?" Bloomerous asked.

"We're having poi with steamed rice and mizuna." Nijiko said. "Shitasakan-chan, could you please wash the taro roots in the colander so we can mash them later? Naokusa, could you please wash the mizuna?"

"Sure, Nijiko-sama." both of them said.

"But there's no hot water, only cold water!" Shitasakan-chan pointed out.

"Then fill a bowl with the cold water and have Bowtteur heat it a bit."

Shitasakan-chan filled a bowl with water in the sink, put the taro roots in it, and placed it on Bowtteur's back for a few seconds to warm it. She then washed her fins and started to rinse the taro while Naokusa rinsed the mizuna.

"Mommy, whyeey is it dark?!" Pudding asked. "I can't seeyeey!"

"Because there's no electricity right now." Shitasakan-chan replied.

"We're using Bloomerous as our lamp, though."She gathered enough sun to last us at least a few hours." Naokusa added.
