Ancient Seed plants a seed on the target. At the end of each turn that the target is under the effect of Ancient Seed, one of the seeded Pokémon's stats, chosen at random, is reduced by 1 level, and the user of Ancient Seed receives an increase of 1 level in that same stat. There is a 5% chance that all stats (Attack, Defense, Sp. Attack, Sp. Defense, and Speed) will be affected. When this happens, the effects of Ancient Seed disappear.
If one of the seeded Pokémon's stats cannot be further decreased, it will not be counted when determining which stat is reduced. However, if the user's stat cannot be further increased, that stat can still be reduced in the seeded Pokémon (in which case the user will not be affected). If none of the foe's stats can be further decreased, the effects of Ancient Seed disappear. Ancient Seed will also disappear if the seeded Pokémon faints or switches out, or uses Rapid Spin. If the user faints or switches out, Ancient Seed will continue to increase the stats of the Pokémon that replaces it, but only if it is in the same position as the user.
Ancient Seed will not work against Grass-type Pokémon or Pokémon using a Substitute.
