Early Life

Ash was raised in Pallet Town by his single mother, Delia Ketchum, and was taken to the trainer school in Viridian City to learn how to be a trainer. When attending, Ash met his lifelong rival Gary Oak. Despite not having his father around growing up, his mother would always tell him stories about the man, telling him about how he was a traveling trainer.

First Day as a Trainer

Due to oversleeping, Ash missed his chance to get one of the three starter Pokemon from Professor Oak's lab. Fortunately for him though, the professor had one pokemon left, a Pikachu. Even though it was stubborn and disobedient, Ash was happy to have gotten a starter Pokemon and not be left out of his chance to follow in his fathers footsteps. He left Pallet Town after a quick stop at home and set off to become a Pokemon Master and find his father. Along the way, he and Pikachu encounter a flock of angry Spearow and a chase begins. The flock swarm Pikachu, brutally attacking the mouse and forcing Ash to pick him up. The two fall off a cliff into a nearby river, which carries them downstream where they meet Misty. After being fished out and asking where the nearest Pokemon Center is, Ash spots the flock closing in and "burrows" Misty's bike and pedals towards Viridian City. Eventually the flock catches up and forces Ash to have an accident that leaves them exposed to harm. In a desperate attempt to protect his Pokemon, Ash puts Pikachu's ball in front him and stood as a human shield before the Spearow. Just as the flock closed the gap, Ash is surrounded by a yellowish-white light that blankets the entire area and blacks out. When he awakens, he finds that Pikachu had come to his rescue but is even worse than before. He then rushes off to Viridian City to get his Pikachu help.

Traveling With Misty

After finally catching up with her scorched bike, Misty confronts Ash in Viridian City about paying for a new bike before seeing that his Pikachu isn't doing well. Ash tells her he'll find a way to pay her back and that he's ssorry for what happened to her bike. He was surprised but thankful that she decided to stay with him in the waiting room for news about Pikachu. When Pikachu was given a clean bill of health, Ash set off for Pewter City, but found that Misty decided to tag along. The two then set off into Viridian Forest.

		Rattata is the third Pokemon caught by Ash in Kanto and his fourth overall. She is a rather chunky rat and loves food, which is part of the reason she was caught. Her moves are Bite, Tackle, Quick Attack, Tail Whip and Focus Energy. Her ability is Guts.

		Rapidash was used by Ash in the Laramie Pokemon Race and, after winning, decided to join his team. Her moves are Bounce, Flame Charge, Swift, Double Kick, Morning Sun and Sunny Day. Her ability is Flame Body.

		Haunter was caught in Lavender Town's Pokemon Tower. Later on, he evolves into Gengar during Professor Oak's seminar on Trade Evolution as a demonstration. His moves are Shadow Punch, Psychic, Hypnosis, Ice Punch, Dream Eater and Shadow Ball. His ability is Levitate.

-Ash's Pikachu is rare in the sense that it has two abilities, Static and Lightning Rod. This is why Team Rocket would take interest in it.
