Detective Pikachu: Case Closed's Japanese boxart

Detective Pikachu: Case Closed (Japanese: 名探偵ピカチュウ: Case Closed Great Detective Pikachu: Case Closed) is a spin-off Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch, and a sequel to Detective Pikachu. It was released worldwide on May 26, 2021 for both retail sale and download. All copies of the game are playable in nine languages: Japanese, English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

The games were announced on May 29, 2019, only weeks after Pokémon Detective Pikachu's release.

Gameplay[]

Unlike the previous game, the player can choose to play as either Pikachu or Tim, some places only being able to get accessed by either one of them, the player having to switch between the two to solve puzzles. The rest of the game plays as the original, Tim and Pikachu solving crimes by looking for clues and collecting evidence.

In two-player, one player controls Tim and the other controls Pikachu.

Reception[]

Detective Pikachu: Case Closed received mostly positive reviews, reviews higher than the first game. IGN rated the game as a "Great" 8.8/10, praising the game's graphics and character development, but criticizing the slow pacing and the story.

Sales[]

The game sold 4 million units in it's launch weekend. As of December 31, 2021, Detective Pikachu has sold 14.93 million copies worldwide.
