I. On Letting Go[]

Living Together[]

Jeremiah Choi was a troublesome delinquent at Celadon City Technical High School - a well respected secondary school in the Kanto region - often cutting class, vandalizing public property, and spending the majority of his time with a gang of friends who encourage similar anti-societal behavior. His apathetic attitude towards the study of Pokémon and contempt for the subject in general compelled him to avoid it as much as possible. Born as the eldest child with a sister who's 5 years younger, his parents are workaholic scientists who barely notice Jeremiah's delinquent behavior and spend a considerable amount of time and energy on their pokemon botany research for Silph Co., racing towards the development of a new strain of Pokemon drugs - specifically Carbos. Jeremiah explains that Celadon City has become an urban sprawl growing at an alarmingly fast rate each year and is attracting new people, new items, and most importantly new pokemon. As a result of this, the family knows very few people in their low-income neighborhood - one of them being Mr. Mi, a charitable and benevolent elderly man who was a successful pokemon collector in the past and is now retired.

One day, after being dismissed from detention again, Jeremiah meets up with his gang and try to think of something fun and new to do. Inspired by the game corner, a close friend and the leader of the gang, Jericho, suggested selling a rare pokemon for a handsome price and splitting the profits. They discover a particular house that is in possession of an Eevee and pressure Jeremiah to steal it. Jeremiah expresses hesitation at first but complies later. He breaks into the house at night and fumbles in the dark looking for the Pokeball containing the Eevee. As soon as he finds it, a shadow in the doorway instructed in a raspy voice to take care of the Eevee. Frightened, Jeremiah bolts out of the house and escapes.

The next day, Jeremiah completely skips school contemplating his actions from the other night and sits in his room staring at the pokeball for hours. He finally decides to return the Eevee and leaves for the high school to confront the gang that he wouldn't give it. After school ends, Jeremiah is questioned by the gang regarding the whereabouts of the pokemon. He tells them he won't give it and will return it to the original owner. Jericho, in a fit of rage orders the gang to beat Jeremiah up and leaves him behind ending the relationship between the two. Jeremiah picks himself up, badly wounded, and trundles back home to retrieve the Eevee and immediately heads to the house he broke into the last night. Upon reaching the house, he finds a large crowd, an ambulance, and a few police cars surrounding the house. Jeremiah soon discovers that he had stolen from Mr. Mi who had died from a heart attack sometime during the night. Distraught and guilt-ridden, Jeremiah goes back home to further contemplate what he should do with the Eevee and thought long and hard as to why Mr. Mi would tell him to take care of the pokemon when he was clearly stealing it. Jeremiah finally vows to follow what Mr. Mi had said and takes on the Eevee as his own Pokemon. He releases Eevee to view it for the first time. The Eevee cowers in fear and Jeremiah reaches out to pet it smiling warmly "I will take care of you."
