It was a bright and sunny morning in the small town of Pallet, located within the Kanto Region. Tyler Red, an eleven-year-old boy, was ready to begin his adventure to achieve his dream: to become the champion of the Pokemon League.

On this particular day, Tyler was suppose to be heading to the laboratory of Professor Oak, the most renowned researcher in all of the region, however Tyler was sound sleep in his bed. Tyler’s mother quickly realized that her son had completely forgotten he was suppose to wake up early this morning and traveled up the stairs to his room to awaken him.

“Tyler, wake up before or else you will be late!” Tyler’s mother shouted at him. Tyler smacked his lips and slowly opened his eyes, feeling totally unaware.

“Huh…what?” Tyler questioned feeling rather drowsy, he had been up all night dreaming about beginning his adventure. Tyler’s mother didn’t have to say anything else, within a few moments Tyler came to his senses and realized what day it was.

“Oh my!” Tyler shouted leaping out of bed and bounding to the closet. Tyler quickly grabbed his outfit out of the closet which consisted of a black shirt, red and white jacket, blue jeans, and a pair of red and white tennis shoes topped off with a red and white hat to match. Tyler threw on his clothes and then rushed to the stairs of his home, slipping and falling down the steps.

Tyler’s mother walked back down the steps after her clumsy son and let out a sigh, she was very worried about what might happen to him on his journeys. “I’m okay!” exclaimed Tyler, climbing back up on his feet.

“Tyler, you be careful out there.” Tyler’s mother said to him, walking over to her son.

“Mom we’ve already been over this, I’ll have lots of strong Pokemon to protect me!” Tyler shouted, reassuring his overprotective mother.

“That was what the neighbor’s kid said before he was eaten by Gyarados.” Tyler’s mother replied, holding up a backpack. “By the way young man you wouldn’t want to forget this.” She said smirking. Tyler blushed, he would have been at a major upset on his adventure without his backpack as he wouldn’t be able to carry any items without it.

“Thanks Mom.” Tyler said to his mother, grabbing his backpack and putting it on his back. After saying his goodbyes to his mother, Tyler finally left the house and walked down a dirt road, in the distance, sitting on a hill was the laboratory of Professor Oak where his first Pokemon awaited him.

Tyler approached the laboratory and walked inside, the interior of the lab was filled with all types of Pokemon related technology. In the back of the laboratory waiting for him was a young girl, his best friend Leira and another boy, his arch childhood rival Tommy. Along with Tommy and Leira was an old man in a lab coat, obviously Professor Oak.

“Finally you decide to arrive Tyler.” Professor Oak begun. “Now that you’re here we can finally get this going, why don’t you pick your Pokemon first.” The old professor stated, pointing to three red and white capsules sitting on a table next to him. These capsules were Pokeballs and they were used by trainer’s to hold their Pokemon in.

“Gramps that’s not fair, I was here first!” Tommy growled, stomping his foot on the ground in protest.

“Actually, I was here first and I don’t mind if Tyler picks before me.” Leira interjected, glaring at Tommy.

“Now kids settle down, Tyler go on ahead and choose.” Professor Oak said again. Tyler approached the table, already knowing what Pokemon he wanted by his side. “I’ve always dreamed of having a powerful Charizard.” Tyler declared, picking up the second Pokeball which contained the Pokemon Charmander, a fire lizard with a flaming tail.

“Nobody really cares.” Tommy sneered right before he approached the table to pick his Pokemon. “I’m going to pick Squirtle to demolish your Charmander!” Tommy spat, grabbing the last Pokeball which contained a Squirtle, a tiny blue turtle Pokemon.

“Well that leaves me.” Leira sighed, a bit irritated that she unfairly got to pick last. Leira grabbed the last remaining Pokeball which contained a Bulbasaur, a small Grass-type dinosaur-like Pokemon with a bulb on it’s back.

“Now that you kids have your Pokemon, how about taking these with you as well.” Professor Oak said handing each child a set of five empty Pokeballs each along with red portable computer devices. “These red devices I’m handing you are called Pokedexes and they record data on all Pokemon you come across, they should be pretty useful on your journeys.” Professor Oak explained.

“Tyler!” Tommy screeched at Tyler, holding his new Pokeball in the air.

“What Tommy?” Tyler questioned his rival.

“Let’s have a battle!” Tommy roared, he threw his Pokeball to the floor, exploding in a flash of light was his Squirtle.

“Fine!” Tyler yelled back at his rival, throwing his own Pokeball to the floor. Exploding in another flash of light was his Charmander.

“Squirtle use Tackle!” Tommy commanded his Squirtle, the blue turtle Pokemon hurled itself towards Tyler’s Charmander causing the Pokemon to fly back onto the floor.

“Quick use Scratch!” Tyler ordered his Charmander which climbed up off the floor, slashing Tommy’s Squirtle with his claws. The two Pokemon fought for a minute, going back and forth with repeat Scratch and Tackle attacks to finally, they both grew exhausted.

“Don’t lose on me now!” Tommy hollered at his Squirtle who huffed and puffed, the blue turtle made one more effort to take down Tyler’s Charmander and succeeded, knocking Charmander out with one last Tackle attack.

“No!” Tyler exclaimed in displeasure at losing his first battle against his rival.

“Hah!” Tommy snickered recalling his Squirtle to his Pokeball. He looked at Tyler and snickered one last time before he headed out of the laboratory. After Tyler recalled his Charmander to it’s Pokeball, Leira approached him.

“Hey Tyler, sorry about your loss but since we’re still here…why not head out together on our journey?” Leira asked, wanting to partner up with Tyler on their adventure.

“Alright Leira-Chan that sounds great.” Tyler replied, having a friend along instantly cheered him up and he ceased to dwell on the loss to Tommy. The two friends then left the laboratory together and headed out of Pallet Town onto Route One.

“Where are we headed to next Leira?” Tyler questioned Leira.

“Viridian City isn’t too far away from here.” Leira responded. As the two walked, the tall grass around them began to ruffle, swooping out from the grass at them was a brown and white bird.

“A Pidgey!” shouted Leira instantly recognizing the part bird Pokemon; Tyler smirked, he wanted to redeem himself from his loss to Tommy by capturing the bird. Without thinking he quickly called out his Charmander who exploded from the Pokeball.

“Charmander!” The small fire lizard shouted striking a pose, appearing to be revitalized from the battle with Tommy’s Squirtle.

“Alright Charmander, let’s go with a Scratch!” Tyler commanded, the Charmander threw itself towards the Pidgey unleashing a slash with it’s claws. The attack from the Charmander tore into the side of the Pidgey which flew to the ground, feeling bewildered by the attack.

“Yeah!” Tyler cheered his Charmander on who began to strike pose in response to his trainer’s approval. However in their celebration, Tyler and Charmander had forgotten that the battle was yet over. Pidgey regained it’s senses and flew towards Charmander, ramming it straight in the stomach. Tyler’s Charmander stumbled back and let out a growl at the Pidgey right before it unleashed a small shower of flames.

“Charmander!” The fire lizard cried as it fire flames at the Pidgey, knocking to the ground unconscious.

“What attack was that?” Tyler asked himself in confusion.

“That was an Ember attack silly.” Leira replied. Tyler chuckled, blushing again in embarrassment. Tyler quickly turned his attention back to the fainted Pidgey, grabbing one of the empty Pokeballs that he was given by Professor Oak he then preceded to capture the bird Pokemon. The Pokeball engulfed the Pidgey in a flash of light and began to shake.

1...2...3! Poof! Tyler had made his first capture. “Hooray!” Tyler yelled in delight, grabbing his new Pokeball off the ground. Tyler quickly clipped the Pokeball onto his belt proud of his capture.

“Charmander.” Charmander said looking at his trainer, cocking his head.

“You did a great job too Charmander, I would not have been able to do it without you.” Tyler said, getting down one knee to pet his Charmander who cheered in happiness of his trainer’s appraisal. Tyler then recalled Charmander back to his Pokeball and he and Leira continued on the road to Viridian City.

Within thirty minutes, Tyler and Leira approached the limits of Viridian City. Just outside the town they took notice of a Pokemon battle between trainers, the duo quickly recognized one of the trainers, it was none other than Tommy and he was battling some girl.

“Squirtle quick use Bubble!” Tommy ordered his Squirtle who obediently unleash a small shower of bubbles from his mouth. The bubbles collided with the enemy Pokemon, a yellow mouse with a lightning bolt shaped tail.

“What Pokemon is that?” Tyler asked pulling out the Pokedex given to him by Professor Oak. The device quickly provided information on the Pokemon in question.

“Pikachu, the Electric Mouse Pokemon, would several of these Pokemon gather their electricity could build and cause powerful lightning storms.” The Pokedex read to Tyler, showing a picture of the Pokemon on it’s screen. Behind the Pokemon was it’s trainer, a young girl with blonde hair wearing a large hat along with a yellow outfit. The attack from Tommy’s Squirtle appeared to have no effect on the Pikachu.

“Thundershock!” The girl commanded her Pikachu, the Pokemon unleashed a shock of electricity onto Tommy’s Squirtle which, being a water-type, was greatly effected by the electric-type attack. Tommy’s Squirtle fainted onto the ground instantly from the attack, Tommy, now humiliated that Tyler had seen his defeat stormed off after recalling his Squirtle.

“Wow, she beat Tommy quick.” Leira commented, watching as Tommy walked away.

“That boy is something else.” The girl chimed in walking over to Tyler and Leira. “He came into town looking for a battle and challenged me, big mistake coming at me with a water-type.” The girl continued right before speaking again. “By the name, my name’s Electra…Electra Yellow.” She said, introducing herself to Tyler and Leira.

“Hey Electra, my name is Tyler and this is my friend and traveling companion Leira.” Tyler replied, introducing himself and Leira to the girl, Electra.

“You guys don’t mind by me asking…but I really want to get out of this town and see the Kanto Region, can I travel with you guys?” Electra asked Tyler.

“Uh sure, but first I got to stop at the Pokemon Center and heal my Pokemon.” Tyler said in response, raising his eyebrows in confusion at the girl’s random proposal. The party, now made of three, traveled to a dome-shaped building with a red roof with a sign labeled: Pokemon Center in big white letters.

Pokemon Centers were places that trainers went to heal their Pokemon when they were tired from battling. Tyler’s Pokemon were nonetheless exhausted, his newly acquired Pidgey having been recently defeated by his Charmander who had battled twice since Tyler had acquired it. Tyler approached the counter of the Pokemon Center, behind it was a woman with pink hair, Nurse Joy and a pink egg-shaped Pokemon, a Chansey which were commonly used by nurses for healing aid.

“Welcome to the Viridian City Pokemon Center, do you wish for me to heal your Pokemon?” Nurse Joy questioned Tyler who nodded his head with a reply yes, dropping his two Pokeballs on the counter. Nurse Joy took the Pokeballs and placed then on a machine and within a few minutes Tyler’s Pokemon were fully healed.

“They you go, hope to see you again soon.” Nurse Joy said, bidding a goodbye to Tyler who met back with his new group. After Tyler healed his Pokemon, he and Leira decided to get more acquainted with their new traveling partner.

“So Electra your from here in Viridian City?” Leira asked her.

“Yeah, I’ve been wanting to go sightseeing across Kanto ever since I got my Pikachu.” Electra replied. Leira, Electra, and Tyler chatted as they walked out of the Pokemon Center and into the streets of Viridian City, the next stop was the Viridian Forest.

As the trio headed out of the city, standing not too far away in a huff was Tommy.

“What a load of crap.” Tommy snarled, referring to his defeat at the hands of Electra. “I’m going to stop Tyler’s party if it’s the last thing I do!” Tommy spat, heading after the trio into the Viridian Forest.
