Michael (Japanese: マイケル Maikeru,) sometimes known as Michael Summers (Japanese: サマーズマイケル Samāzu Maikeru) and simply Mike (Japanese: マイク Maiku,) is a Pokémon Trainer from Pallet Town in the Kanto region, and the protagonist of the story, Pokémon: Dreams and Adventures. With a deep, pure love for Pokémon, a fondness for Pokémon battles and a yearning for a life of adventure, Michael starts his journey when he meets Professor Oak and is handed his own Pokémon. From there on, Michael sets out to travel across the Kanto region, collecting every kind of Pokémon he sees to fill his Pokédex for Professor Oak, as well as take on the eight Kanto Gym Leaders for their badges, in order to make it to Indigo Plateau and become the Champion of the Pokémon League. He also routinely faces off against his own younger brothers and rivals, Shane and Aries; with Shane's goals being similar to Michael's, and Aries' goals differing slightly in that he wishes to become a Pokémon breeder. Along the way, he runs into the evil Team Rocket, whom Michael opposes due to their inhumane treatment of Pokémon.

Currently, little info beyond this is purposefully withheld by the author in an attempt to keep readers in suspense, and so what happens to Michael beyond all this is unknown.

Throughout his adventures in the Kanto region, Michael has stayed relatively the same in appearance. A young child when he began his adventures (only seven years old and on the cusp of becoming eight,) Michael is naturally youthful and short in appearance. His iconic red hair is short, as it comes down roughly to ear length, and when his hat isn't on, his hair typically appears shaggy, unkempt and jagged, but still lays low to his head. Complimenting his reddish hair are his blue, friendly eyes. When it comes to clothing, Michael seems to stick to one particular outfit through much of the duration of his adventures in Kanto; usually sticking to a blue T-shirt, black vest, blue jeans, black fingerless gloves with gray trim, and white and blue sneakers. Michael also tends to sport his blue cap which he likes to keep worn backwards, as per his own sense of style. Likewise, Michael is almost always seen wearing his silvery pendant around his neck, which stays attached to a chain link. The pendant appears to be incredibly precious and important to Michael, as he can be seen polishing it in his free time and making sure it never leaves his side. The reason for this is due to words of encouragement and good luck that were inscribed into it from his family, before leaving to travel the region in order to satisfy his thirst for adventure. What had been written is currently unknown, but it appears to mean the world to Michael, as it always seems to give him more morale when his resolve starts to wane.

Where he keeps his Poké Balls seems to be on his belt, behind his back, and likewise, he keeps his Pokédex in his pants' pocket for quick and easy access. While not always pictured with his backpack on, it is known to be carried with him at all times; sporting teal straps and pack alike, as well as retaining an almost rectangular shape to it. When not obstructed by the straps of his backpack, his collective Gym badges can be seen lining the left side of his vest; going from top to bottom and right to left, in groups of two.

Main article: Squirt, Michael's Squirtle

Squirt is a young Squirtle that was handed to Michael by Professor Oak at his lab. This marks Squirt as Michael's first Pokémon and the one he's held onto the longest. Squirt appears to have an independent streak to his personality, as he was unwilling to cooperate with Michael and follow many of his orders outside of battle. He seems to prefer doing things on his own and at his own pace, which can infuriate and annoy Michael at times. Beyond his disobedience problems, Squirt has proven himself to be an effective battler too, given his species' naturally decent defenses and his typing's versatility.

His only known moves so far seem to be the standard Tackle and Tail Whip techniques.

  • Michael's name was derived from Wyvern 0m3g4's own name, given the basis behind the character in the first place. His alias as Michael Summers comes from another fan story which involved Michael and his Pokémon, known as Generation F (or Generation Furo,) which is co-authored alongside Wyvern's friend, Jakyou. Summers was also chosen to play off Jakyou's character's family name, Winter, and was chosen due to Wyvern's love of warmth, Fire type Pokémon and the season of summer itself. It may also have to do with Michael's red hair.
    • The image(s) used for Michael were all originally conceived by Wyvern 0m3g4. Permission is needed to use his character design concept.
    • Likewise, Michael's design and character were used as a basis behind the character of Wyv in Pokemon SOF!, which is written by friend of Wyvern 0m3g4, Fantasy Detective.
  • The concept behind the character of Michael in Pokémon: Dreams and Adventures was inspired by Wyvern's most recent run through the game, Pokémon Blue Version. While playing the game, he found himself incredibly attached to the team of Pokémon he was raising at the time, as well as pride in his accomplishments, such as catching a Chansey and a Dratini in the Safari Zone. Upon completing the game, he began to envision his experience in the game as if it were a story, leading to the birth of Pokémon: Dreams and Adventures. The experiences he had as the player character, which was named MICHAEL at the time, became the standard foundation for Michael in-story. The rest was pulled from a lifetime of experiences with the Pokémon franchise itself and Wyvern's own personality and preferences.
