Pokémon Black 3/White 3 are the sequels to Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2, taking place in a new Unova Region, 11 years after B2W2, and having two rivals, and no more rivals at the same time for the first time since Cheren and Bianca, the rivals of the original Black/White.

Pokémon Black 3/White 3 includes a new story, where the protagonist (Genesis or Gena), and his/her rivals (Olivia and Marcus) must stop the Team Voidrage, made from the fragments of Ghetsis' Team Plasma, before they awaken Original Forme ReshiramB3/Original Forme ZekromW3 and destroy the Unova Region.

Story

You (the protagonist) finally turned 14, living in the floating city of Aerios City, just north of Route 24, west of Route 25 and south of Anville Town and Air Route 26, along with your friends, Marcus and Olivia. Upon arriving in Floccesy Town, Olivia notices a man with blonde hair, and a white coat, running towards Aspertia City. Marcus, who is incredibly eager to get his first Pokémon, chases after the man, leaving you with Olivia, where the goal now is to go to Aspertia City, while Olivia and you avoid the tall grass along Route 19. In Aspertia City, Marcus is absolutely bombarding the man, who reveals himself as Colress, and has a suitcase with three Poké Balls, containing Snivy, Oshawott and Tepig. (Below is a chart of what Marcus and Olivia will choose after you choose your starter)

Choice Chart
Your Choice Olivia's Choice Marcus's Choice
Tepig Oshawott Snivy

Oshawott Snivy Tepig

After you choose your starter, Colress tells you to battle the strongest, being Olivia, for the sole reason of her actually being a competent rival, unlike Marcus. Once you defeat her, she goes to the Aspertia City Gym. This is probably a sign to go to the Aspertia Gym, the Normal-Type Gym. Once you defeat the Gym Leader Cheren, Marcus rushes in and asks you a question about not knowing what a Pokémon Center is, then retracts his question, because there's one next to the apartment complex you, Marcus and Olivia live in, then he gives you a letter addressed to your mom. So you go back home, give your mom the Letter From Colress, and she gives you the XTransceiver, now with a PokéDex and Town Map option. After that, you find Team Plasma's logo plastered on the dirt path on Route 24, as you think nothing much of it yet. Once you get to Virbank City, a strange man is chasing a Trainer, and you must defeat him. Once you defeat him, he calls himself "Veno of Team Voidrage, the Chosen One of TruthB3/IdealsW3". After defeating him, you battle Roxie, Virbank City's Gym Leader. After getting the Toxic Badge, a Gentleman Trainer will burst in, rush you to Pokéstar Studios, and let you star in three movies, which all depend on your starter choice.

Pokéstar Studios Movies
Starters Movie 1 Movie 2 Movie 3
Tepig "Invaders: Rebooted" "Unovan Legends" "The Champion"
Snivy "Unovan Legends" "The Champion" "Invaders: Rebooted"
Oshawott "The Champion" "Invaders: Rebooted" "Unovan Legends"

("Invaders: Rebooted" is a reboot of the original Invaders movie made in B2W2's Pokéstar Studios. "Unovan Legends" retells the Twin Princes' fued, and a Trainer from some far-off future's attempt to calm the rage of the Dragons. "The Champion" tells the story of Hilda/Rosa/Nate/Hilbert's rise to be the Unova Champion. The entire Pokéstar Studios sidequest takes about 38 minutes to fully complete.)

After that, there's a split, the Driftveil, Nimbasa and Castelia City Gyms can be completed in any order, before the first real conflict in the game. After obtaining the [Castelia-Driftveil Format] Insect Badge, the Bolt Badge and the Quake Badge, you should receive a call on your XTransciever from your mom, her location being "Anville Town". She mentions that Aerios City had been evacuated by weird people in purple and black suits. You should make your way to Aerios City, but first, get HM02 (Fly) from this guy in the GameFreak HQ in Castelia City, which allows you to fly to places you've visited. Once you get to Aerios City, Olivia and Marcus are fighting the strange guys in purple and black suits. One walks up to you and challenges you to a battle. Once you win, he'll drop HM03 Surf. He mentions Team Voidrage, their boss, and disappointment, meaning that he's part of Team Voidrage, and is a Grunt Trainer. Olivia thanks you for helping, and gives you a Bike Waiver.

After that, you, Olivia and Marcus head up Air Route 26 to Anville Town, where everyone who evacuated is sitting. And after that, you have a call from an unknown man, telling you, Olivia and Marcus to meet him in Mistralton City. When you, Olivia and Marcus arrive, it's Professor Elm, from Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal/Heartgold/Soulsilver, and his assistant, Lyra, from Heartgold/Soulsilver. The "Elm Lab" is located where the old Mistralton Gym used to be before Skyla moved her Gym to Icirrus City. Professor Elm gives you an egg (Like he does in GSC/HGSS), his phone number, and a new app on your XTransciever, the Radio, which you can activate DS Sounds. He mentions that Unova is his comfort region. Before you leave, Lyra challenges you with a team of not her HGSS team, but a new team of 5 Unovan Pokémon. (We'll get into her team on her profile page) You, of course, win the battle, and head to Icirrus City to challenge Skyla, the Flying-Type Gym Leader. Upon defeating her, you're rewarded the Jet Badge, and the TM for Aerial Ace. You battle Olivia and Marcus on Route 8, in a Double Battle format. Olivia and Marcus go ahead to Opelucid City, where the main "Finding Plasma" storyline starts. A call from a mystery man on your XTransciever raises questions. He tells you, Olivia and Marcus about Team Plasma, and Ghetsis, and their original goal of liberating Pokémon from all Trainers, and how it was wrong, and how Team Neo Plasma's goal of stealing Pokémon was wrong as well. He tells you to meet him by the North Entrance to the Safari Zone Loop, south of Route 27, where he is found in a robe with the Team Plasma logo rubbed off. He tells you to enter the Safari Zone to find a Pokémon that's close to him, or in simpleton terms, a Zorua. Once finding it in the center of the Safari Zone, or where the Entree used to be, you bring it back to the weird man in the Safari Zone Loop, and he brings you, Marcus and Olivia to Village Bridge, where a group of Wingull (This is the only place you can catch a Wingull in B3/W3 Main-Story Unova) attacks you, Olivia, Marcus and the mysterious man. Upon defeating/catching one, the Wingull all disperse, back to where they came from. The mysterious man gives you a small bag, and then runs off back towards Opelucid City. Marcus heads towards Lacunosa Town as Olivia challenges you to a battle in the middle of the Village Bridge. You win, and Olivia tells you she'll get stronger, and walks towards Opelucid City, where the old Gym is actually now the new Unovan Battle Company. In Lacunosa Town, Marcus takes you to a house on the north side, where a Hiker tells you and Marcus a folklore about the Original Dragon-Type Pokémon. Marcus shrugs it off, calling the folklore "a joke". He then asks you to battle on Route 13, where Coballion can be seen after the battle. Marcus runs towards Undella Town, giving you HM01 Cut before he runs off. Trekking down Route 13, you arrive in Undella Town, where Marcus is in front of the Gym, which is where Caitlyn's Villa used to be. Marcus says that the Gym is locked, so you must go down south onto Route 14, to Black CityB3/White ForestW3. Once there, you encounter Undella Town Gym Leader Hugh in the Black TowerB3/White TreehouseW3. Hugh takes one look at you and tells you to go to the Humilau Gym and get the Wave Badge. Upon trying to exit the area, Team Voidrage Admin Kiva stops you and Hugh. You and Hugh battle Kiva in a Double Battle format. Upon winning, Kiva runs off somewhere. Hugh returns to Undella Town, and you go through the Marine Tube to Humilau City. In Humilau City, the Gym in on solid land, a small island where the Marine Tube exit is. When entering the Gym, it's an aquarium, with a few Trainers to battle. When defeating Gym Leader Marlon, Voidrage Grunts infiltrate the Gym. Marlon heals your Pokémon, and battles the Grunts alongside you. Upon defeating the Voidrage Grunts, they retreat, mentioning something about Original ZekromW3/Original ReshiramB3. You return to Undella Town for Hugh's Gym, which Hugh is out at the Driftveil Daycare, which is the only building on the hill in Driftveil City. Before now, the hill was blocked off by Pokémon Breeders. You tell Hugh to go to the Undella Town Gym, to which he replies that he can't leave the abandoned Pokémon alone by themselves, before asking you if you'll take care of them. You return to Undella Town, and battle Hugh, who has his own theme from B2W2 and has a full team of 6 Dark-Type Pokémon, the first ever Gym Leader to do so. Upon defeating him, he hands you the Dark Badge, before you get a call on your XTransciever from the mysterious man from before, telling you to go directly to Humilau City. But Voidrage Admins Xander and Nova are in the Marine Tube, and you must defeat them with Hugh, who heard there was commotion in the Marine Tube. Upon defeating them, they run towards Humilau City, and when you enter Humilau City, the mysterious man from Opelucid City is there, ready to take off his robe. Hugh, Olivia and Marcus rush in, saying they want to help stop whatever Team Voidrage is planning. The robed man approves, and takes off his robe, to reveal that he was N, the former King of Team Plasma 13 years ago. Hugh had never met N before, so he's understandably confused. N tells you, Hugh, Marcus and Olivia to go straight to the Giant Chasm. After you go there, the Giant Chasm is swarming with Voidrage Grunts, that N scares off with ZekromB3/ReshiramW3, before going to the deepest part of the Giant Chasm, only for Marcus and Hugh to get knocked out by Original ReshiramB3/Original ZekromW3. The man commanding the dragon to attack steps out from behind the dragon, and introduces himself as Draven, Team Voidrage's leader, and mentions that he would've been Team Plasma's King if they were still around. He tells you, N and Olivia to make sure to keep his name in your head, because he's going to use the Original Forme dragon to attempt a killing. N sends out his legendary dragon, and gets on it, and fights Original ReshiramB3/Original ZekromW3 while riding on ZekromB3/ReshiramW3. Olivia battles using Kyurem, which was summoned by the Icy Flute she obtained sometime between the Village Bridge battle with her, and now. You're just here to take down Draven's five Pokémon that isn't the Original Forme dragon. You win, and Draven questions his plan, if it was right. He leaves to the west, and you notice that Hugh and Marcus are awake. N is unconscious, and Olivia tells you to go to Victory Road. Once you enter Route 23, Olivia and Marcus exit behind you, and are silent. N doesn't come out of the cave, and judging by how Olivia and Marcus are silent, N might've died. They give no dialogue when speaking to them, until halfway through Route 23, Marcus says something about Route 24 and home. He's mentioning the start of your Pokémon journey, when you were a new Trainer, when you hadn't known about Team Voidrage, when you weren't known by the entire Unova Region as a hero. He tells you and Olivia to look over the new overlook the Pokémon League built for Trainers reminiscing about the start of their journey. Once you stop, you carry on, onto Victory Road. There are no Trainers to battle due to Victory Road's collapse about 4 years before the story of B3W3. Once you enter the Pokémon League, there's no coming out unless you black out. The Elite Four consist of the Ghost-Type Bookworm Shauntal, the Fighting-Type Apprentice of Alder Marshall, the type unspecified Conductor Emmet, and the Dragon-Type Mayor Drayden. Once you've defeated all four of these strong Trainers, a stairway opens up at the back of the main room. Going up leads to either Rosa or Nate, depending on what gender you chose at the start of the game. They are classified as the Champion of Unova, and upon defeating them, the main story ends. It's done, you're the Champion.

Post-Game

Unova B3W3 (Route 28+Unity Forest)

Post-Game Unova B3W3

The entire southeast part of Unova has opened up, and you get a call from a mysterious man to go to Accumula Town. When you do, he'll challenge you to a battle, with a full team of Furret. Upon defeating him, he gives you a free Furret, which is the same level as your lowest level Party Pokémon. The man claims to have known N, and claims that something's waiting for you at N's Castle, which there's now a special bypass to by using Route 10, north of Opelucid City. Upon arriving to N's Castle and going to the second floor, there's a Pokéball. Inside it contains ZekromB3/ReshiramW3 with the Original Trainer of N, and N's ID Number. There's a note attached to it that reads, "To [player name], this Pokémon was a good friend of mine. You have seen it when we took down Team Voidrage together. I do wish I could've stayed with it, but unfortunately, I am gone. I asked my friend to transport this ball and note to my castle. -N" If you have a spot in your party, the ZekromB3/ReshiramW3 will join your party, but if there's no space, it goes to one of your PC Boxes. Upon exiting to Route 10, you get a call from none other than the Pokémon League Organization, congratulating you on your victory, and invites you to try out the new Victory Road via the new Route 28 and the Unity Forest, north of Lacunosa Town. After finishing this request, Cheren and Bianca are waiting at the Giant Chasm, with an old friend of theirs, from 13 years ago. It's Hilbert or Hilda, depending on the gender you chose. You, Hilbert/Hilda, Cheren and Bianca enter the Giant Chasm together. When you and the others get to where the Plasma Frigate was in B2W2, there's a loud roaring sound. Hilbert/Hilda runs into where you and N fought Draven in the main story. It would seem like Draven didn't properly leave ReshiramB3/ZekromW3 out of their Original Forme. You can catch the Original Forme Dragon, and Hilbert/Hilda say that it reminds them of their own ReshiramB3/ZekromW3. Hilbert/Hilda then ask about N, and you tell them about what happened where you are. Hilbert/Hilda say that they'll return to Nuvema Town. Bianca and Cheren say they'll follow Hilbert/Hilda to Nuvema Town. After this, you can go to the Unity Tower, which is no longer Wi-Fi Connection based, but serves as a Battle Facility. Besides that, you can go through Routes 17 and 18 to go to the P2 Laboratory, which is very decrepit and abandoned, as well as the old Plasma Frigate. You can also rematch Unova's Gym Leaders, who have new Gym Puzzles and new Pokémon on their team, with a full team of six.

Once completing the Unovan Pokédex, you can get a Master Ball from Professor Bianca, and another one for completing the National Dex, given by Hilbert/Hilda. Trading between versions is required to complete both Dexes.

The PWT is now fully open! Battle great Trainers, such as Misty, Red, Blue, Steven Stone, Cynthia, Hilda, Hilbert, Ethan/Gold, Lyra, now with new additions such as Paldea's very own Top Champion Geeta and Champion Nemona, Kalos' movie star Diana, Alola's Professor Kukui, The Masked Royal and Lillie, and Galar's Hop and the Former Champion Leon. We can't leave out the Unova Region's Gym Leaders, now with a higher amount of Pokémon, and higher levels. Even the former Champion Rosa or Nate has joined in on the fun! Oh hey, there's the Isle of Armor, Crown Tundra, and the BB Academy! Seems like the Trainers from there are competing in the PWT! Such Trainers as Mustard, Kieran, Carmine, Drayten, Klara, Peony, Peonia and Penny. And even Zinnia wants to join the PWT, as she makes her return for the first time in 10 years in a game other than Masters EX. And even Brendan and May join the biggest PWT lineup in years!

Defeating Lyra in the Johto Tournament will give you the GB Sounds, so you can hear everything in the Gold/Silver/Crystal style. Defeating May in the Hoenn Tournament will give you the A Expansion to the GB Sounds.

And thus ends the entire B3W3 story, main and post-game.

Trivia

  • A video from a beta build was leaked on March 12th, 2024, showcasing a completely different Victory Road from the final Route 28/Unity Forest. The "route" was just called "Final Test".
  • In an interview with the director of B3W3, it was mentioned that Aerios City was loosely based off of blimps flying above New York City. He mentioned that it was initially supposed to randomize location on the map, but he scrapped that for a floating city in the far west of Unova.
  • A scrapped plot point involved a prison on Voidrage Island (formerly Liberty Garden), but eventually was scrapped.
  • A glitch in the game's code accidentally makes it so your starter cannot be shiny. This had NEVER been fixed.
  • Another glitch allowed players to listen to the Sound Test, where there was an unused Draven battle theme and an unused Draven Low HP theme, both were officially put as 098 and 099 in the OST order.
  • Draven was originally going to be able to be fought in the PWT Unovan Tournament, but that would clash with what Draven said ("Maybe I'll go out on a journey, to find out whether or not I was correct, or if I was worshipping a false idol... Ghetsis, he was my boss 11 years ago, I had been just a low tier Plasma Grunt. It was my only form of income, but I thought I was doing the right thing! Like I said, I'm going to a region far-off, a place where no one will know my name.")
  • It was originally intended for Draven to become the Champion, or become the Strongest Trainer in Unova to just prove his power.
