Reakoiru Jr., also known as Zaffre because of his colour, was a former member of Sheriff Magnezone's police force that was based at the continent of Aevaroen, and is the leader of Aevaroen Security Police. He is also one of the founders of Team StormBlitz. He currently holds the rank of General.

History

Beginnings

Zaffre was created in Cleftwood Village by Reakoiru Sr. The Magneton had taken the utmost care in constructing him. In moments, Reakoiru Jr had come to be.

Early Law Enforcement

Having been inspired by Sheriff Magnezone and the others, he expressed his desire to become a police officer himself, and would soon enlist in the police force as one of the younger recruits. During that time, he met Iron, whom he worked closely with and became a very close friend. Joining them were Brihlzend, Copper, Tin, and Clacq.

Because of his very high competence and self-discipline, he rose through the ranks of the police force, attaining the rank of inspector. He worked as a detective throughout his career, using his intelligence to track down outlaws under the influence of corruption. However, with the coming turmoil, he began to feel that more could be done. After a while, he went on to start a new unit. There were some that were sympathetic of him, including Iron, and joined him, too.

Team StormBlitz

Some time later, he became one of the founders of Team StormBlitz, working with Lighsttrom and Pikaichichu in actively hunting down corrupted criminals and outlaws all over Aevaroen. During his and the team's time assisting the Wigglytuff Guild, he was skeptical of some of the policies of the Guild, namely the ones that Chatot had instated and enforced.

Zaffre could not stand Team Skull and Crossbones. When they toadied favour from the Guildmaster and Chatot, he sneered at them the entire time.

Along with the rest of the team, Lieutenant Zaffre played a role in stopping the Time Crisis.

The Reunion

Zaffre along with the rest of Branch A, as well as the team leader, arrived at the well hidden region of Vann. Sometime before arriving at Vann, he had been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.

War in Kalos

Zaffre was among the officers that had received word from Clacq that Lysandre Fuladari was having Xanthian Xerosic conduct cruel experiments on other Pokémon, attempting to artificially induce Mega Evolution with painful results. Team StormBlitz and A.S.P. were among those around the world to have seen the broadcast of Fuladari's speech, prompting them to take action. They took to Kalos and were among those that battled Fuladari's armed gang.

Celrest Campaign

Zaffre was among the members of Team StormBlitz that participated in the Celrest Strike. Here, he was at the rank of Lieutenant General. He, Pikaichichu, Clinger and Latchgrip first met with Cerin and Lace in Celrest as a storm approached, and after fighting off a Cavriluon squadron, discussed their course of action at a secret base. From there, they would move to stop Vahashii and restore order to Celrest.

Personality and Traits

Zaffre is a dark blue Magneton, which is how he received this moniker around Aevaroen since he was a Magnemite, notably by fellow officers during his training. He liked it, and soon began referring to himself as this, even on formal occasions. He only has the three top screws, the other six forward screws are not present.

Even as a Magnemite, Zaffre was notably larger than average. As a Magneton, his neutral formation puts him at approximately the same height as Sheriff Magnezone.

Zaffre is one to put his mind to work, so it is difficult for him to lose focus (unless he is startled by something).

Zaffre is known for his strong sense of justice, and will see to it that it is done.

As a young Magnemite, Zaffre was not above mischief. In the forests near Cleftwood, he would sometimes tease or play a trick on a Buizel that also lived there.

Zaffre speaks with a light Serunaoki accent, his speech having been influenced by his father Reakoiru.

Neurologically, Zaffre is much different from an ordinary individual of his evolutionary line. At a young age, he had trouble with analysing some social cues, and fitting in during some situations. Eye contact was difficult for him to maintain, and he struggled with interacting normally. While having overcome some of those troubles, his social awkwardness still shows from time to time.

Zaffre is obsessed with organisation, and prefers to keep his offices and his inventory well organised down to the letters and numbers.

He is also an expert with technology, operating machinery at a speed that a human being cannot keep up with. He even has his own helicopter that he sometimes uses for transport.

He keeps a cool and collected mind and therefore most of the time he shows rational judgement in his decisions.

Despite his discipline and cool demeanour, he does have his limits, as demonstrated when he went on the attack against Ransoton and Ardos for their experiments on the Pokémon that were captured by the Roketto Gang. In another example, when Ace Raegar lost control of his transformation using the power of the orb and subjected his friends to dangerous attacks in his Groudon form multiple times, he immediately and angrily ordered for his arrest, not stopping until they captured him.

As the years went on, he has exhibited increasing guilt and hints of self-loathing.

Overnight in early 2008, during his and Team StormBlitz's time helping the Guild, he overheard Wigglytuff talking with Chatot. He caught sight of a Defend Globe that Wigglytuff accidentally dropped on the floor. It was given to him by an Armaldo, whom he learned was a friend and mentor of his. Zaffre was shaken to hear that he was an outlaw and arrested. After hearing his story, he left the central hall silently in tears. Even when he had Armaldo reunited with Wigglytuff, the sadness still lingered.

It took the intervention of Detritex Aex and Khik to help him come to terms with all of this.

In his earlier years he would semi-frequently get sidetracked. This sometimes would prompt intervention from others on the team.

Abilities

Zaffre's Tri-Attack

Zaffre is the only Pokémon to be able to alter the elemental types of Tri-Attack in various combinations. This proves to be useful, especially when in tight situations.

He is able to split himself into three units. There has been another Magneton that has done that, but Zaffre holds the distinction of being the first to use that tactic.

Even if an impact knocks him into separate pieces, he can reassemble himself at will, another useful ability that allows him to stay on the move.

300000V

Zaffre launches a blast of electrical bolts that carry 300000 volts on a high sustained current.

Shadow Ability

Zaffre is also shown to be able to use Shadow Moves, for a strange reason. More oddly enough, he has a strong resistance to Shadow Moves. He even imbues a dark aura when this is active - this aura is visible to everyone. The powers are more potent than those used by the corrupted counterparts.

Trivia

Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon featured a Magneton alongside Sheriff Magnezone in addition to Deputy Magnemite. Over five years before the game was released, Zaffre's character was established as having been part of Sheriff Magnezone's police prior.

Since 2010, Zaffre has been shown to know Shadow Moves, and has used them from time to time. In 2016, it has been described that what preceded his Shadow attacks was the telltale dark aura that was present with Shadow Pokémon, which became the standard from then on. However, with him, it is very dark blue rather than black, and everyone can see it when he is in this state. In 2019, Shadow Pokémon made a return in Pokémon GO, though the mechanics with them were different from their 2003 and 2005 counterparts, of which his Shadow state is based on.

As of 2019-10-22, Zaffre has been confirmed by the author himself to have autism.

The concept of the character Zaffre dates as far back as the original generations, having been inspired by the Magneton in M01, which, under two years later, would be identified as his creator, later being given the name Reakoiru Sr. He was further characterised by the existence of police in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series and was given a blue colour to identify him. Since his debut, he has served as one of the author's protagonists in a cooperative story.
