Defense

In terms of defence, the Sand-type performs extremely well, resisting eleven types including the immunity to Poison and its status effects. On the other hand, it has six weaknesses when pure, making it have the most out of any type.

Offense

The same could be said about offence as well, since there are a wide variety of Pokémon that have double weaknesses to Sand. The same applies the other way however, and too many types resist Sand with some having double resistances. It also has no effect on the Dragon-type.
