Trivia[]
The origin of Squirt's name in-story is derived from the nickname given to every Squirtle Wyvern has obtained in various Pokémon games; acting as an honorary tribute to the very first Pokémon Wyvern ever received in-game. This is also obviously portrayed through Michael's reasoning for giving his Squirtle the name, as it's the same reasoning Wyvern had used in real life.
Considering Dreams and Adventures is largely based off of Wyvern's experiences with the Pokémon games and franchise, the similarities between game Squirt and story Squirt's names are made all the more obvious.
The inspiration behind the name for Squirt came from three sources:
Squirt is a shortened form of the name, Squirtle.
"Squirt" can refer to anyone who is of short stature, such as Squirtle
"Squirt" can also refer to the action of squirting water or other liquids, which Squirtle is capable of with moves like Water Gun.
Much like his Trainer, Squirt has appeared in multiple other stories aside from Dreams and Adventures; these being Pokémon Generation F (or Generation Furo; co-written by Wyvern and his friend Jakyou) and Pokemon SOF! (written by Wyvern's other friend, Fantasy Detective.) In both stories, Squirt keeps the same role of being Wyvern/Michael's starter Pokémon and longstanding companion.
