Review[]

Pros[]

  • Has a whopping eight resistances in Flying, Bug, Steel, Fire, Grass, Electric, Ice, and Fairy, and only three weaknesses in Rock, Ground, and Water
  • All three of its abilities (Stoke, Motor Drive, and Sap Sipper), are highly useful
  • A blistering base speed of 125 makes Sterzebire difficult to revenge kill
  • Has access to powerful STAB moves in the forms of Flare Blitz, Thunder, and Overheat
  • Sterzebire can reliably run both a physical set and a special set thanks to its good 110/95 offenses; it also has access to Swords Dance, allowing it to function as a physical wallbreaker
  • However, its strongest physical moves come with recoil of some kind, meaning physical sets are often worn down faster than special ones
  • Sterzebire's special sets can act as a fast pivot with Volt Switch, which also allows it to shake off the Sp. Attack drop from Overheat by pivoting out

Cons[]

  • Sterzebire's 80/70/70 bulk is nothing special, meaning it can't make the most out of its eight resistances
  • Sterzebire has a weakness to Stealth Rock and a 4x weakness to Ground-type attacks, and no access to recovery leaves it worn down quickly
  • Sterzebire's coverage options aren't the greatest, only having access to Stomping Tantrum and Bully on physical sets, and SolarBeam and Hidden Power of choice (typically Ice) on special ones
  • Sterzebire needs partners that can remove entry hazards for it, since it is easily worn down by them
