Story

Kyle, Jon and Maria are in Professor Sycamore’s lab sitting down having some tea with Sycamore.

Jon: Do you know what happened with Typhlosion, Professor?

Sycamore: No, I haven’t seen that happen before.

Jon: Ah ok. I’ll call up Nate and see if he knows.

Nate walks in.

Nate: See if I know what?

Jon: Nate? When did you get here?

Sycamore: Nate has been helping me with your Heracross’s Mega Evolution data.

Jon: Ah okay. Nate this is Kyle and his sister Maria.

Kyle: Nice to meet you.

Maria: Hi.

Nate: Hey. So, what did you want to say?

Jon quickly explains what happened when Typhlosion got covered in a fiery vortex.

Nate: I see. Do you mind sending out Typhlosion?

Jon sends out Typhlosion as instructed. Nate gets out a device which has a mega symbol on the screen.

Jon: What is that?

Nate: It’s a mega Pokémon device from Lysandre labs. This detects whether a Pokémon is able to Mega Evoultion.

Nate points the scanner at Typhlosion and the screen shows a tick. Nate then rotates some of the dials and then the screen turns into a graph, with the mega evolution line going from zero, up to 100% in no time at all.

Nate: Well, Typhlosion seems to be able to Mega Evolve, or at least has some of the Mega Evolution properties.

Kyle: Whoa.

Sophie, professor Sycamore’s assistant, brings back everyone’s Pokémon.

Nate: Jon, I’d like to have a battle with Typhlosion.

Jon: Okay, but why?

Nate: I’d like to see this potential mega evolution myself.

Jon: Okay then. What do you say Typhlosion?

Typhlosion nods. The scene moves to a battle field round the back of the Pokémon lab. Jon and Nate are on the battlefield, with Kyle, Maria and Professor Sycamore watching. Professor Sycamore is holding the mega device Nate had earlier.

Maria: This would be a good thing for Litwick to watch.

Maria sends out Litwick.

Maria: Okay Litwick, let’s cheer for Jon.

At the battlefield, Nate has his Hawlucha out and Jon has Typhlosion out.

Jon: Ready?

Nate: Yep. Karate Chop!

Hawlucha uses Karate Chop towards Typhlosion.

Jon: Grab it and then use Focus Blast!

Typhlosion catches Hawlucha’s Karate Chop and then uses Focus Blast close range, knocking Hawlucha into the sky.

Nate: Aerial Ace!

Jon: Flare Blitz!

The two Pokémon collide and Hawlucha smashes into the battlefield near Nate and is unable to battle.

Nate: Good try Hawlucha.

Nate returns Hawlucha.

Nate: Can we continue? I really want to see this ‘bond’ you have with Typhlosion.

Jon: Sure

Nate sends out Raichu.

Nate: Let’s go again. Thunderbolt!

Jon: Counter with Flamethrower!

Raichu uses Thunderbolt but Typhlosion cancels it out with Flamethrower.

Nate: Iron Tail!

Raichu quickly hits Typhlosion with Iron Tail.

Nate: Volt Tackle!

Jon: Flare Blitz!

Raichu runs towards Typhlosion using Volt Tackle with Typhlosion retaliating with Flare Blitz, but Raichu comes out on top, causing Typhlosion to get blasted back to Jon.

Nate: Is that all?

Jon’s fist clenches and so does Typhlosion’s.

Jon: We’ll keep getting stronger together. You know this.

Typhlosion gets covered in fiery vortex again, though this time surrounded like a teardrop of fire.

Nate: So that is Typhlosion’s mysterious form.

Professor Sycamore looks at the scanner and the graph is off the scale.

Sycamore: The scanner is off the charts.

Nate: Let’s see how much. Thunderbolt!

Jon: Flamethrower!

The moves collide with Flamethrower easily over powering Thunderbolt and hitting Raichu.

Nate: Iron Tail!

Raichu uses Iron Tail and hits Typhlosion’s left shoulder. Jon holds his left shoulder with a bit of pain.

Kyle: You are okay Jon?

Jon: When Iron Tail hit Typhlosion, I felt Typhlosion’s pain from the hit.

Jon blinks and suddenly sees what Typhlosion sees. Jon quickly open his eyes.

Jon: Flare Blitz, go!

Nate: Volt Tackle!

Raichu uses Volt Tackle and heads towards Typhlosion. Typhlosion then heads towards Raichu using Flare Blitz, leaving a dent in the floor. Typhlosion is moving at twice the speed before and hits Raichu, causing Raichu to smash into the battlefield next to Nate. Typhlosion skids next to Jon and takes recoil damage. Jon also feels the recoil damage. The fiery vortex disappears and both Jon and Typhlosion fall to the floor, exhausted. Soon, Jon gets up and walks next to Typhlosion. Professor Sycamore, Maria, Litwick, Nate and Kyle go to Jon and Typhlosion.

Nate: That was intense.

Kyle: I never knew you felt the pain Typhlosion took.

Jon: And after the battle, and after Typhlosion went back to his normal form, I suddenly got exhausted, like Typhlosion was.

Maria: Maybe you two are linked when this form happens.

Sycamore: There is a lot to research here, but I think Typhlosion is accessing the Mega Evolution power through its bond with Jon.

Jon: Typhlosion’s bond with me?

Nate: I agree. Just before Typhlosion got surrounded in a fiery vortex, you clenched your fist and Typhlosion copied your movements.

Kyle: So, this could be an indication when you and Typhlosion bond and Typhlosion gets surrounded in a fiery vortex.

Jon: Could be.

Jon looks at Typhlosion.

Jon: Whatever causes it, we’ll work it out together.

Sycamore: For now, get some rest and stay the night.

The next day, Jon, Maria and Kyle leave the Pokémon Lab and wave goodbye to Nate and Professor Sycamore.

Nate: I’m going to stay and help with the research on what causes Jon and Typhlosion to be like that.

Sycamore: Two heads are better than one. This could also give me more insight to my Mega Evolution research.

Nate: I heard same tales around about a Greninja and his trainer bonding in the same way Jon and Typhlosion just did. Maybe that is also linked?

Sycamore: Whatever causes this, Jon and Typhlosion would also figure it out together.

The screen freezes showing Nate and Professor Sycamore’s face on the screen.\

Narrator: Nate and Jon have had their battle and now understand a bit more about the form Typhlosion takes when it and Jon bond. Now, with even more questions with no answers, Nate and Professor Sycamore begin their research, while Jon, Kyle and Maria travel onwards towards Cyllage City.
